John W. Ferris, 72, who made his home with a stepson, Frank Connell at Mellott, died there at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 10, 1976, apparently of a heart attack. He was born at Monticello Oct. 22, 1903, a son of George and Mattie Albertson Ferris. He was first married to Louise Swank. He then married Alta M. Connell who preceded him in death in 1972. Mr. Ferris was a retired employee of the Harrison Steel Castings Co. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty Oliver of Battleground and Mrs. Barbara Ferrel of Hastings, Mich.;a stepdaughter, Mrs. Devonna Wilson of Mace; three stepsons, William O. Connell of Crawfordsville, Frances J. Connell of Mellott and Daniel L. Connell of Los Angeles and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Burkhalter Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Rev. David Fuller officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.
